3 things to do to heal a broken heart

The first night is usually the worst with the exception of every morning for the first week. Waking up is always a nightmare. The room is silent, your breath echoes through the void when you wake up. The only reminder of a previous relationship is the gigantic stain left on your heart, as it seems to barely beat to life through your weak body.

Going through a breakup is never easy. The tricky part is navigating to get back to who you are now that you are the only one. When you’ve been in a relationship for a long time, it can be difficult to replace “we” with just “me.”

At first, your identity may go to that of the one who just left. You may continue to do all the things he or she loved even though they were things you hated. Also, the most common and popular thing is to get drunk and forget about it. This option may work for the first night or two, but the truth is that it will make you look and feel even worse after a breakup.

Here are three things you can do to combat pain right now:

1. Get up, move and get out! This is the first and most difficult step. Aside from going to work, it’s time to do something just for yourself. First, get up and take a shower. Try to look your best because it’s time to go for a walk or go to your local gym. Get out there and get your blood circulating. Your heart needs it!

2. There is no better time for a makeover than now. Go do something nice for yourself. If you don’t have the money for a complete makeover, try buying some nail polish or a cute scarf at the thrift store. The important thing is to make sure it matches your personality. Give yourself up because a big part of you has just been taken away from you. It is time to replace what is missing.

3. Get an appointment. If you’re always dying to try that corner Chinese restaurant, but your significant other hates Chinese, it’s time to go there. If you don’t want to go alone, bring a friend, but the important thing is that you go. Go see a movie you are dying to see or see an exhibit at a local museum. Burn more of your own personal adventures on your heart.

These are 3 simple things you can do to get up and out of your depression. Although they are easy to read, the challenge is to achieve them. The main thing to remember is that you still have yourself, and after all said and done you’ve had yourself all along, now is the time to honor yourself again.
