Google News still includes press releases in the news it aggregates. Also, press releases fall outside of Google’s algorithms because they are considered news. Anything that has news is by definition current, so it goes directly to the top of the search engine results page (SERP).

Assuming, that is, that your press release was really well created and is being read widely and appears on an authorized site. Because even if the algorithm changes don’t affect them because it’s news, you still need to produce high-quality content, even if it’s a press release, if you want to rank high in the SERPS.

  • Keyword rich content – Will your audience actively search for the terms you use? It is important that you include terms that your audience wants information about. Use keywords and keyword phrases that your audience will search for. But, don’t fill in, be natural, write for humans.
  • Targeted content – Does your audience care about the content of your press release? It is important that someone wants to read your news and share it with others. If no one wants to read it, it won’t matter where it is. So, write it down for your audience.
  • Placement Of content – Does your press release appear on valuable websites? If your article is well written and appears on authoritative websites, it will be noticed more by search engines and your target audience.
  • Well edited happy – Does the press release have spelling and grammatical errors? Now, you won’t be punished for a little mistake here and there, but obviously raw and unrefined content, even within your writing, will rank below something that is more refined.
  • Full content – Is the content comprehensive and complete or does it only tell part of the story? Is a substantial amount of information missing to make the content questionable? Writing a press release that doesn’t tell the whole story, or just one side of the story, and is too short, can cause your content to not rank as high as more inclusive content.
  • Appropriate title – Google only says that “a title must contain at least 10 characters and be between 2 and 22 words. “It is not very useful. Actually, a longer title, but no more than 120 characters, will be more effective because it includes more search terms. Also, it is important not to use puns as they were fashionable in the days of newspapers The audience will recognize so that they click to learn more about your niche topic.

The important thing is not to stop using press releases. If you don’t currently send them, get started now. Create and submit to reputable news agencies that announce major events, original information, and unique news that are of real value to humans within your niche and you will see substantial payoff in terms of SERPS.
