5-2-2-1

This formation, like any formation with 4 or more in the backfield, is a strong defensive formation. Very useful for fast forwards and teams that use counter attacks frequently.

5-2-1-2

Of all the ‘5’ formations, this is the least used. Another formation that requires a better-than-average center forward, mainly because most of the game will come through the middle. Basically his center forward is backed by 2 CM, while he supports the 2 forwards. When using this training, build your team with counterattack in mind.

5-3-2

This is a favorite among many players. Since it is a defensive formation that allows many opportunities for attack. You will need talented forwards who can quickly clear space and create instant opportunities for midfielders to move the ball through the middle. This should also create good options, as there are 3 midfielders who can distribute to the forwards from almost anywhere on the field.

3-4-1-2

A well-rounded formation, the 3-4-1-2 relies on its center forward. Save very little to find a dominant player in this position, as he will be your main coach for the forwards. What he will lack in defense he will make up for when he advances the ball on the field.

3-4-2-1

Here we only have one striker, supported by the left and right forwards. Forwards should be able to create a wider shape on the offensive side of the field, leaving room for solid scoring opportunities for the lone striker. You must have above-average central defenses to prevent your opponents from creating too much space around YOUR corner flags.

3-4-3

Designed for players who are successful in crossing the ball from side to side, looking for opportunities near the opponent’s flags. Keep Solid Players In Your Backfield – With only 3 defenders, they need to be able to handle a lot of tough situations.

3-5-2

2 CDMs will help create better support for your defense, which will be much needed with this slightly altered midfield scenario. In this formation, the CAM, who plays as a forward in midfield, must be an excellent ball handler. It is likely to carry much of the workload. Your 2 midfielders will also act as full-backs, which means they will need to be young and in excellent physical condition.

4-1-2-1-2

With a diamond shaped midfield, this is a more balanced formation widely used by many players. This standard formation has a lot of players who like to use it, so the player cards will eventually cost you more. Keep this in mind when building your team and when targeting the player market.

4-2-3-1

It is used for the possession of the ball close to the opponents’ area; there are no midfielders or wingers. Instead, you will use CAM on both sides of the field, providing balance and flexibility to move up and down the field. And because there will only be one striker, you have to pay for a top-tier player. When you have an opportunity, you should be able to make the most of it.

4-2-2-2

Similar to 4-2-3-1, this formation uses two forwards and no center forward on the hole. With it, you will use two defensive midfielders and two ATTACKS midfielders. This is best suited for leagues with an abundance of CDM and CAM on opposing teams.

4-3-1-2

This formation has to do with the advance of the ball through the center of the field. He will use 3 midfielders and 2 forwards, and the center forward, who will be the type of reference to advance the ball between the 2 sets of positions. Use this formation if you are more comfortable moving the ball straight up the field rather than side to side.

4-3-2-1

Using forwards to assist a single forward, the 4-3-2-1 formation is designed to put pressure on your opponents. This is the formation preferred by high-level players in FIFA Ultimate Team, and should only be used after gaining experience with the intermediate game.

4-3-3

Known for its abnormal style, the 4-3-3 gets used a lot. The timing and movement of the ball can also hamper your opponent if you control the space between your player and his place well. With 3 CMs who must be excellent ball handlers, you need to make sure all 3 are above average in their positions. They will be the glue that will keep this formation together, since they will have to be able to buy time to prepare that of the central midfielder.

4-4-1-1

There is a difference in this formation setup compared to 4-3-3, and that is that one of the forwards will enter the hole. This is so that the center forward can hold the ball and create better opportunities for the single forward. Used by the best teams in the world, you have to be able to pass the ball efficiently for this to work.

4-4-2

If you are just getting started with FUT games, this would be a great way to get used to playing. It is very safe and offers the kind of balance necessary to avoid finding yourself in many difficult situations. Great to make a good all-round team.

4-5-1

This formation uses 5 players in the midfield area. A scheme based on possession, mainly to control the ball in and around the center of the field. With 1 striker and 2 CAMs to support him, the striker will be better prepared as someone who can break through the defense with his skills. Due to the number of players clustered in midfield, you must wait for the right opportunities before attempting to advance the ball.

Putting your workouts to work

Once you’ve taken a look at the different formations, go ahead and practice trying each one. Get an idea of what it takes to use them to their full potential. Try to create a correlation between what you have read and what happens during the games.

This is a great way to be more confident on and off the field when exchanging players and construction teams.
