Natural help for floaters

Do you have any magic cure for floaters? A common question I have heard over the years. Yes and no. This is what I have learned:

There are no magic cures for floaters, just prevention to make more of them. Floaters are caused by microbleeding from the blood vessels at the back of the eye; when the bleed contracts, the blood clot floats within the vitreous humor of the eye. After a while, the body adapts to the hoverfly and is not consciously seen unless the person concentrates to see it. That’s what they say.

The goal is to strengthen the blood vessels so they don’t break or rupture.

Products that seem to be working better for the general population include:

  • Hepatic zinc chelate and Chezyn by standard process
  • visual eyes by Source Naturals
  • Ocu-Guard Plus, which doesn’t work as well as any of the above, but still works well and is generally available at most health food stores. Ocu-Guard without the plus doesn’t work very well, so don’t get it.
  • Routine, a molecule of vitamin C, which helps strengthen the connections between cells to prevent further bruising and broken blood vessels. Rutin is sometimes hard to find, but it’s really cheap when you find it, or you can eat a lot of citric fruits (especially the white part of the rind has a high content of rutin) or eat a lot of buckwheat which is also high on the grind.

If you have a zinc deficiency (as most of my clients seem to have) will have many other symptoms of that. The same goes for copper deficiency (mainly tendon/ligament problems).

Other diseases that can predispose a person to floaters have high blood pressure and take blood thinners and NSAIDs like aspirin, Tylenol, and even Ginkgo biloba on a regular basis.

One tip you can explore is the use of baking soda as a toothpaste. It is hard not to swallow at least some of these products after brushing your teeth and I have noticed an increase in blood pressure for those clients who use toothpastes with baking soda and/or as an antacid or to alkalize their body. This is an unsafe practice. Please do not do it!

If you bruise easily–you also have a predisposition to hemorrhage within the ocular vessels. There is usually a reason for bruising and high blood pressure. Getting to the root cause of these diseases is really helpful in preventing all sorts of other problems, including floaters. Everything is related to everything else.

Magic cures? No. Prevention? Yes!
