Siamese Cats – Do You Really Want One?

Are you ready and able to receive Siamese cats in your heart and in your home?

Where should you start?

With more personality. Siamese cats can require a lot of maintenance, more than most house cats. Don’t let this put you off, because when it comes to purebreds, they don’t require any major maintenance. In fact, they are much less troublesome than some of the long-haired breeds like the Persian cat, which requires daily brushing and combing.

What does “high maintenance” mean? Unlike the Persian cat, Siamese cats have very short fur, and although many like a brush, they can take care of their own fur. This also applies to long-haired Siamese, called Balinese or Javanese – they have a longer, easier-to-handle silky coat.

Where they do require more attention is in the mental and psychological area. Without that attention, they will become unhappy and an unhappy Siamese cat spells trouble. Imagine this: shredded furniture and curtains, marking territory and self-harm by pulling off your own fur, just to start.

How does this affect your decision to buy the most tempting, cute, and naughty Siamese kitten pack?

If you’re out of the house for hours on end, plan to have more than one Siamese or make a real effort to keep your cat entertained – that means special toys, hidden treats around the house, or special places to sleep by the window.

When you return home, plan to have a good time together. It will allow you to get back together and your cat will forget their time apart.

Another option is a Balinese or Javanese, who also belong to the Siamese cat family. Some breeders say that with a Balinese or Javanese, you get the character of a Siamese, but generally a calmer nature. If you plan to be at work all day, you might consider the longer-haired Balinese rather than the standard Siamese.

Take some time to think about what you want from your cat.

If the thought of a cat always prowling around, wanting attention, and meowing loudly in that piercing Siamese voice gets on your nerves even as you’re reading this, then this really might not be the best option for you.

Do you have a hectic family life? Do you really have the time, energy, and inclination to tend to your Siamese’s emotional needs? Remember, a lonely and ignored Siamese will be antisocial and irritate you even more, and that’s a cruel thing to do.

Ultimately, all cats cost money, vet bills, food, and room costs soon add up. It would be very sad to end up giving your cat away because you can’t afford to keep it. If your job takes away all your time, having a Siamese is probably not a good idea. Take some time to think about this before buying your Siamese cat!

If you still think that you can care for and keep this very special and striking cat, read on, because Siamese cats are really different.

Most owners agree that Siamese cats are special. They look different, with their darker legs and faces and their blue eyes. And they have such a distinctive voice, even those who don’t love cats can recognize a Siamese.

Siamese cats are on average smarter than most cats, although there may be exceptions.

You will be delighted with their antics. Although they have a classy appearance, they can often be quite clumsy. Be careful to screw all the trimmings! Who knows, they may choose to be clumsy just to get your attention. They feel warmer than other cats when you hug them and they love the heat. Those radiator beds are very popular in colder climates. And if you can provide them with the entertainment of a safe outdoor run, they will love it.

However, Siamese cats cannot see as well as other cats at night, so be careful that they are not harmed. Also not all Siamese are noisy, although some can howl the house. Make sure you have quiet neighbors who don’t wonder why you are torturing your cat!

If you have more than one Siamese, you will probably find that, unlike the more independent breeds, they will love sleeping together in a big pile, another good reason to have more than one. Occasionally, like any other cat, they will dislike their housemates and will never sleep together, but this is rare.

Are you still fascinated by Siamese cats? Still convinced that this is the perfect match for you?

That’s good news, because a Siamese is truly a special friend.

However, a word of caution before you buy: it is the same for all breeds, you must choose your kitten carefully. To avoid distress, do your research properly and buy from a reputable breeder. After all, the last thing you want is a sick or weak kitten.

Still not discouraged? Then you will be rewarded with a wonderful special relationship that this breed is known for.
