1. Make sure you have good antivirus software installed on your computer and make sure it is always up to date. Viruses are among the leading causes of computer crashes. A full virus scan should be performed regularly. Avoid visiting websites that are suspected of being infested with malware. Do not open emails whose sender seems doubtful, they could contain deadly malware that can put your system at risk.
2. Defrag your drive regularly. Defragmenting your drive once every two to three months is a good way to make sure your computer stays in top condition. Fragmentation occurs when your computer’s operating system cannot allocate enough contiguous space to store an entire file as a drive, and instead places parts of it in spaces between other files. To illustrate this, let’s compare it to a library where some patrons don’t put books back in the proper place after reading them. 7. Uninstall programs you don’t use. These programs take up space on your hard drive. the more space you have on your hard drive, the faster your computer will run.
8. Always run your computer on a UPS. Sudden electrical surges are harmful to your computer.
9. If you are familiar with the inside of the case, physically clean your computer. Remove any dust that accumulates on the case with a cloth or vacuum cleaner. However, be careful not to damage any part.
