5 ideas for writing sales pages that sell

One of the best tips I’ve ever gotten about writing sales pages is to think of them in terms of having a conversation with someone.

Whether you have a small list or thousands on it, you can still give all of your sales communications whether it’s a long sales letter, sales copy for an ad, or short sales copy for the product page. of your website, the feeling of being personal if you write it as if you were talking to a friend.

This is what I mean:

1. Tell a story

One of the most effective ways to write sales pages that convert (meaning people take the action you want them to take) is by engaging with your reader in some way.

If you’ve been where they are now, telling your story can go a long way toward engaging your reader, increasing your credibility, and giving the reader a reassuring sense that you know what you’re talking about.

2. Ask questions

To introduce your story, you can ask a series of questions to which your reader would answer “yes.” When her reader says “yes, that’s me,” she’s immediately hooked him and enticed him to keep reading.

For example, on the back of my business card (which is a sales tool that I use to entice people to subscribe to my ezine), I ask, “Are you sick of struggling to attract enough customers for your deal?” and “Are you really good at what you do, but promoting yourself is eluding you?”

You could do the same on your sales pages. For example, at the beginning of my sales letter for my How to Write Sales Pages That Sell teleseminar, I ask, “Do you currently have sales pages online, but they aren’t converting, which means you’re not doing many (or any) sales pages online.” )?”. !) sales from them?” and “Are you planning to launch a product or service in the next 90 days and know you need to write the sales page for it, but have no idea how to go about it?”

3. Touch the pain

A very effective way to attract your reader to your sales page is to touch on the pain of the problem that you are offering the solution to.

For example, our neighbor’s two dogs bark incessantly, often waking my daughter up from her nap, and making it hard for me to concentrate when I’m working. We’ve tried everything, including talking to the neighbors several times, calling the dog watcher even more often (unfortunately, the neighbor is friendly to the dog watcher), chasing the cats away when they’re the ones barking at, and even trying to tolerate it.

But when it became clear that the dog watcher was not going to be effective, and since we live in a very small town where the mayor is also our neighbor, it didn’t seem like we were going to be able to resolve this issue through the proper channels, I started look for other solutions.

What I found was a compassionate dog training device, and the reason I was willing to spend nearly $100 was this prize on their sales page:

“Have you tried EVERYTHING to silence the annoying barking of your neighbor’s dog?”

Sold out!

4. Focus on the top and bottom

The two most read parts of your sales pages are the title and the PS. There are certain very effective ways you can use both of these components, and one of them is to use them to engage with your reader in some way.

I’ve seen sales pages without a title, just the title of the product they’re selling, and I’ve seen plenty of sales pages without a PS at the end.

Not having compelling copy in your headline or a gentle push in a PS can really hurt your sales. Make sure you target these two areas of your sales page very carefully.

5. Offer a strong guarantee

Most of us are skeptical to some extent and often ask the question, “yes, but will it work for me?” Eliminate that doubt by offering a solid guarantee.

Research shows that the longer the warranty, the better. And even better is to make it clear that your buyer can get a refund without having to give a reason for requesting it. Offer a minimum 90-day warranty and a no-questions-asked refund policy, and you’ll make more sales and fewer returns, even if it seems counterintuitive.

One final note: writing sales copy is a skill anyone can master, with a little practice and guidance. There are plenty of great sales pages online that you can model. To get started, just think about the ones that actually spoke to you and made a purchase from. Think about what made you enter your credit card number and reflect it on your own sales copy.
