Fashion Belts for Women: The Right Ways to Wear a Belt Without Looking Fat

November 30, 2022 0 Comments

Fashion belts are great accessories that instantly add a modern touch to any outfit. Whether it’s a dress, shirt, top or sweater, a belt can:

  • Accentuate natural curves
  • Create an illusion of curves.
  • It makes you look longer and slimmer
  • Give your body some definition
  • Make your outfit look more up-to-date

Fashion belts basically add a new dimension to your style!

I know how easy it is to pick whatever belt you think looks good, but honestly, looking good is all about bringing out the best in your appearance!

Here are 5 tips on how to look fabulous in trendy belts without the extra pounds:

Define and trim your waist

We are drawn to symmetry, which is why an hourglass is considered ideal due to feminine curves. Create or accentuate a waist with a dark colored belt. If, for example, you wear a red dress with a wide black belt, the red color at the top and bottom will expand outward, making your waist look smaller than your bust and hips. For maximum waist definition, wrap the belt around the thinnest part of your waist.

Choose the right belt style for your body dimensions

Determine the fullness of your body. Are you a slim, average or full figure? Basically, you should choose a belt style that matches the dimensions of your body. For example, if you are a plus size person trying to wear a skinny belt, it will appear larger due to the obvious difference. On the other hand, if you’re skinny, belts that are too big can overwhelm your slender frame.

Know how to stylize your height with a belt

You also need to find out how tall your top half (waist and top) is compared to your bottom half (legs) and your overall height. If you are petite/plus size/or have a short torso then you should avoid wearing a belt that contrasts with the color of your top because it will make it look shorter and wider around the middle. If you have a very long waist compared to your legs, do the opposite and wear, for example, a light-colored belt around your waist or hips over a black sweater.

Place it on the right side of your body.

A belt around the waist is a classic modern look.

However, if you want to wear it low-rise, remember that it will draw attention to your hips and thighs, so make sure you feel comfortable showing off this asset. If you want to avoid drawing too much attention to that area, opt for a belt that matches the color of your butt (jeans, pants, skirt, etc.)

If you have narrow hips compared to your bust and shoulders, wearing a low-rise belt will give you a curvier figure.

Don’t go overboard with accessories

The belt is the centerpiece of your outfit and should be left alone without any other accessories or clothing trying to steal the show. Think twice when donning a pair of multi-buckle shoes with statement jewelry. Keep everything else simple, however, if the belt is already plain and simple, you can take your breath away with an accessory or two.

So what do you think of fashionable belts? Do you think they are flashy? I personally love them, from skinny to wide, and consider them a must-have in any fashion-forward woman’s wardrobe. They can really do wonders for your outfit.
