Find out how the Amish are preparing for economic disaster
What is going on in our world as to why we should prepare for an economic disaster?
I realize that for some, the term “Preppers” may be totally new and may make you think of high school kids who wore khakis, loafers, and polo shirts. But this is for you if you are just beginning to realize that world events and potential natural disasters may be of concern to you, your family and your business.
So a “Prepper” is someone who takes this seriously and is at least doing a few things to prepare for such eventualities.
Now, for the committed preparers, you’ll find that the Amish offer a glimpse into the “Simple Life,” which the Amish have lived since the 1600s when they were raised in Europe by a man named Jakob Ammann. A related group with similar conservative religious values are the Mennonites.
So, for the purposes of our discussions, when I refer to the Amish, I mean the Amish/Mennonite culture.
The Amish immigrated to the United States in the 19th century to escape religious persecution. They have established several small areas that they live in throughout the US and one of them is North Central Indiana, I have lived here for many years. About 10 years ago my wife and I bought a business from a Mennonite family and we had many Amish working for us during the time we had the business. (We sold it in 2009, just before the real estate market got really bad. We made a nice profit and it all paid off. The business sold again for a few hundred thousand less than we sold it.)
We’ve been preparing to some degree the entire time we’ve lived here, but we’ve stepped up our activity dramatically over the last year or so.
Willis, my Amish friend, revealed to me a few months ago that he would really like to find a way to help others by getting survival tips and preparing for society. So with my colleague, Hari Luker, Willis and I have formed Amish Survival Secrets.
All of this goes a long way to setting the stage and giving you an idea of where we came from. You see, the Amish have been mocked, sometimes considered very mysterious. Then there is the Amish heater, which has been sold for several years through full-page direct response ads in virtually every newspaper in the country. The fact is that the Amish do not use these heaters and the only thing that could make them Amish is a wooden cabinet for the electric heater. (http://www.heatsurgesale.com/) From a business growth specialist, I have to take my hat off to them, but from someone who knows the Amish I realize how disingenuous this really is.
In our case, this is not false. Willis is really Amish and I have worked with and know the Amish. By combining our technology and online skills with Willis’s personal knowledge and access to secrets only the Amish know, we are able to give him “true Amish” insights that he can use in his life.
So what are the threats to consider?
Here are some things that could happen:
- Great economic turmoil due to mounting debt and failing economies around the world.

- Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Solar Flares: Eliminate everything electrical and would turn everything off, instantly. Internet, modern cars, telephones, electrical network, computers, etc. This has happened a few times in the last century and our enemies now have the ability to do it to us.

We’ve seen all of this play out recently. See how many people were devastated in these situations.
If this sounds like doomsday talk and you just want to get on with your day job and react when you have to… no problem. But, consider how many are listed above and others that have not been considered. Is it possible that at least one of these will happen to you in the next 10 years, even if you are not a pessimistic person?
So the point here is simply to make you aware of what COULD happen and that there are some very simple remedies for you to take action to make sure you are ready if or when this happens.
