Five curiosities about five great professional athletes

Sports are a big part of the world and there are huge sports fans everywhere. The five major sports are soccer, football, baseball, hockey, and basketball. Each one has fans of specific teams and, of course, the best players from those teams.

Here’s a look at five pieces of trivia related to five of the best players in each of those sports.

#1 – Everyone knows that the player who caught more touchdown passes from San Francisco 49ers great Joe Montana than anyone else was Jerry Rice. However, the first player to catch a TD pass in the NFL from Montana was tight end Bob Bruer in 1979. This was his only touchdown reception as a 49er.

#2 – As of 2010, New York Yankees great Derek Jeter has hit 234 career home runs. With a total of five, he has hit more with pitcher Sidney Ponson than anyone else. Tied for second with four are Rodrigo López and David Wells.

#3 – In Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby’s first NHL game in 2005, he assisted on his team’s only goal of the game, which was scored by Mark Recchi. The Penguins lost that game 5-1 to the New Jersey Devils.

#4 – David Beckham is one of the biggest names in soccer. He has played for great teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and, of course, the England soccer team. His first goal for England came during the 1998 World Cup match against Colombia from a long-range free kick that helped his team win 2-0.

#5 – During the 2005-2006 NBA season, Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant achieved his longest streak of consecutive games with at least one three-point shot made. The streak spanned from December 26, 2005 to February 28, 2006, a span of 28 games. His second-longest streak came in 2009 when he racked up 21 straight games with at least one 3-pointer.
