How to install fiberglass siding

Fiberglass is a lightweight, strong, and inexpensive material that helps protect your home from damage caused by heat and moisture. The material also plays a huge role in giving your home a distinctive new look.

The good side of the material is that it has a coordinated, self-aligning, interlocking design that snaps easily into place for a perfect fit.

Installation of this material is easy. This is because all you need is a tape measure, chalk, nails, a hammer, and builder’s felt.

The first thing to do is measure the exterior of the house with a tape measure to determine the amount of siding you need to purchase. Here you should measure all the exposed walls.

When doing your calculations, you must remember to subtract the height and width of all doors and windows. The measurements you get after doing your calculations are the ones you use when purchasing your siding.

Once you have purchased the coverings, you should apply a layer of construction felt to all exposed parts of the wall.

To provide excellent waterproofing, you should slip sections of felt into the corners and around your door and window frames. If you consider it necessary, you should fix the felt with a stapler.

After doing this you need to apply the starter strip (which comes with the slip). Here you need to apply the strip to the edge of an exposed wall and then secure it in place with nails. You then need to run the starter strip the length of the house while making sure it is held in place with nails.

Once the starter batten is in place, you need to lay the first set of fiberglass siding panels. Here you need to install the panels directly to the starter strip and then fasten them with nails. You should continue installing the panels until the entire house is covered.

You then need to install the second game using the same pattern you used in the first game. You must secure the second set with a 1-inch overlap from the top of the first set to the bottom of the second set.

You should use a table saw to cut out any siding that intersects with doors or windows. You must use the same saw to trim any siding that exceeds the height of the wall.

Once the entire house is covered, you need to run a line of caulk along the corners of your house. This is to provide a waterproof layer.
