With each passing day it becomes more evident that something is wrong in the world. All the time somewhere in the world there is war, hunger and poverty. Countries go bankrupt. The climate is changing and extreme weather conditions are becoming normal. And yet no one does anything about it. If this is the case, can you afford to be unprepared when the worst happens?

Like many people, you have already thought about what might happen if disaster strikes. People may be aware of the dangers and risks, but still most do not prepare for them. Why is that? Well, the answer is quite simple. Most of us are afraid that if someone finds out that we are preparing for a disaster, they will label us as freaks. This is enough to put some people off. We are “social animals” and most of us really do care what other people think. However, you should not act the other way around no matter what the neighbors think. Your life and that of your loved ones is at stake. If you are sensitive enough to know that you need to be prepared, then you should not hesitate and start building your emergency preparedness kit.

If you think about it, no one has to know about your survival kit. It’s actually better if no one knows. Carefully label an emergency plan. Think about all the possible disaster scenarios that could occur where you live. Then make a list of everything you might need to create sustainable food storage. Start buying food products with a long shelf life. First on your list should be the foods that last the longest, such as grains, rice, beans, flour, and different types of pasta. What to happen to canned goods. Canned tuna, meat and vegetables can last up to ten years. Don’t forget salt, sugar, powdered milk, coffee, tea and spices and also different oils. Honey is a must as it is incredibly nutritious and can last forever. You should keep in mind that emergency food does not have enough vitamins and minerals, so you should plan to include some nuts and dried fruits in your storage. Get some vitamin supplements too.

Also, think about the best way to store water. It is acceptable to store bottled water, but having a large water tank installed might be a better idea.

However, you should not only focus on food and water. You will surely need something to start a fire. You must not forget a can opener. A knife, rope, sewing kit, tape, soap, and candles are probably something you would like to have.

However, if you think that all of the above will cost you a fortune, you should not worry. Actually, you need careful planning and time. A good organization will also help. But in the end you will have a decent food storage that will give you an advantage over 90% of the population. You will be prepared and your family will be safe. And prevention is always better than cure.
