Oceanside – The Hidden Seaside Town

There are quite a few large Southern California communities and cities in San Diego County. Each city has its own special charm, tourist attraction, and family-oriented community that make San Diego one of the best places to travel.

One of the great cities of San Diego is Oceanside, which resides in the northern county section of San Diego and of course is right by the ocean. Oceanside used to be known as a military town due to its proximity to the Camp Pendleton base, but in the last ten years a great deal of commercial development has sprung up in Oceanside, increasing commerce and real estate in the coastal town.

Driving south on I-5 from Los Angeles and Orange County, Oceanside is the first city drivers cross when entering San Diego County. West of the 5 Freeway are the beautiful and tranquil beaches of Oceanside, along with the longest wooden pier in the United States. Many movies have been filmed near Oceanside Beach, including “Top Gun” and the cheerleading movie finale “Bring it On.” There are many new hotels beginning to develop in the area and great “mom and pop” shopping in the downtown Oceanside area.

To the east, there are quite a few family-oriented homes and communities. Perfect for those looking to move to an area that is looking for affordability along with great schools and great family neighborhoods.

For travelers there is the Guajome National Park for camping and hiking. An oceanside RV park for those who want to be within walking distance of the ocean and want to hear the waves crashing at night. There is also a nature reserve located near a small swamp with an abundance of spectacular wildlife. Surfing at Oceanside beaches is a draw for many surfers in the San Diego and Orange County area, along with a plethora of water sports like kayaking, jet skiing, and boogie boarding. There is also a harbor area for those looking to fish or go whale watching in late winter and early spring.

There are quite a few things to do in Oceanside. More than people expect when driving through this growing city. Over time, Oceanside is expected to grow and become home to many more residents and a great place for travelers looking to spend some quiet time in the sun.
