homeoplasmin is a homeopathic herbal remedy in the form of an ointment intended for skin irritations. It is only officially available in France. Homeoplasmin contains plant extracts as well as an antiseptic. Homeoplasmin ointment is intended to relieve irritation of the nasal membranes commonly affected by colds and rhinitis. According to Boiron Laboratories (the manufacturers of the product), it is also effective on scratches, scuffs, bruises, and cracks in the skin.

Homeoplasmin was originally created to cure the nasal passages from colds, allergies, and freezing temperatures, which is why it is so effective on the lips when temperatures drop in harsh climates during winter. Parisians have been using it for decades as it is widely available and effective.

Homeoplasmin has been used by makeup artists during winter fashion shoots and fashion shows to treat wind-cracked, wind-blown, and jet-lagged models suffering from flaking skin from the cold. Minutes after application, the skin appears hydrated, radiant and with a healthy image. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop.com site further notes the efficacy of homeoplasmin stating, “Intended for skin irritations, homeoplasmin is a lifesaver when it comes to dry, winter-ravaged skin.”

An effective method of use when putting on makeup is to apply homeoplasmin ointment liberally to the red, cracked areas under the nose and on the lips for a few minutes, then cleanse and apply foundation as normal. Homeoplasmin has a matte finish. According to Style Magazine, “Almost all makeup artists, Francophiles, and international beauty junkies swear by homeoplasmin as the go-to remedy for chapped lips and dry patches. Unsurprisingly, it’s as amazing as they say and the aluminum tube is really satisfying to use.”

Other accolades include Stylist.com (UK), adding: “Another perennial backstage beauty must-have, homeoplasmin is the connoisseurs’ alternative to Vaseline. An emollient that heals chapped and dry skin; softens lips with a velvety matte finish.

Homeoplasmin ingredients are Calendula officinalis, Phytolacca officinalis, Bryonia, Benzoin, Boric acid and Vaselinum album. Not for children under 30 months or for prolonged use at any age. It should not be applied in lactation areas. Short-term use 1-3 times a day is recommended to cleanse the skin.

The product is lightly scented with a slight tint and is packaged in a sealed aluminum tube. Plans to sell homeoplasmin directly to consumers outside of France have not been made public at this time. The reasons why manufacturers limit their marketing primarily to France are unclear given the product’s simple ingredient list.
