A day in the life of Kingston Jamaica! Immerse yourself in this charming city by following this handy itinerary. Whether you’re visiting for a quick visit or planning to stay for a longer vacation, Kingston Jamaica will keep you entertained throughout your trip. So plan and travel.

Before you leave home, prepare for the Kingston weather by strategically packing a few important items. Kingston is hot and humid year-round with a dominant humid tropical climate. Bring your comfortable walking shoes, beachwear, and light clothing, along with a hat and some sunscreen to protect you from the Caribbean rays. For your trip to the Blue Mountains, bring a sweater and rain gear along with good hiking shoes. Once you have everything in your bag, it’s time to go!

After arriving in Kingston Jamaica, proceed to your chosen accommodation. As a large and developed city in the Caribbean, Kingston offers a variety of accommodation options, from large luxury resorts to budget hostels, quaint locally run bed and breakfasts and standard hotels. Do some advanced research to ensure you get the best deal and have the amenities you expect upon arrival. Put away your luggage, change your clothes and get ready for your busy day!

We spent the first half of our day exploring the ‘natural’ side of Kingston Jamaica. Despite being a large cosmopolitan city, Kingston is filled with natural beauty that will take your breath away. So let’s avoid the heat of the day and head out in the morning to some of the best natural sites. We will begin our journey at the Hope Botanical Gardens, the largest gardens in the Caribbean, containing incredible local and international flora. After a walk through this garden, we can go to Parque de la EmancipaciĆ³n, a green space in the middle of the city that offers fun activities. Walk through the tree lined space, or relax on a bench listening to local bands, this is certainly a great place to enjoy the real Kingston.

After our natural morning, we are certainly hungry, so it is time to go out for lunch. Local food is one of the things that makes Kingston famous around the world. Many restaurants and cafes offer unique cuisine, many of which are cooked with the famous jerk spice that Jamaican food is so famous for. You can also try some local seafood, often cooked with extreme spices to taste even the spiciest of mouths. Or, try the local curry varieties, which reflect Jamaica’s varied cultural background. If you’re distressed by the many options, don’t worry, dinner is coming soon!

After lunch, it’s time to see the “citizen” side of Kingston Jamaica. There are a number of museums and historical sites, too many to see in one afternoon. Choose from the National Gallery of Jamaica, a fabulous compilation of Jamaican and international art. If you are an art lover, but prefer musical variety, the Bob Marley Museum is an unmissable alternative. Both a museum and a historic site, this is a stop for all fans, featuring unique and personal items from this famous musical icon.

Depending on how much time you spend wandering around the museum of your choice, you should have some time for a historical site. We can travel to Port Royal, largely a reconstruction of the infamous port of pirate lore. An interactive museum along with a series of reconstructed buildings allow you to experience the port during its heyday.

If you prefer to stay low-key, head to Devon House. One of the finest examples of local Kingston Jamaican architecture and once home to a famous Kingston resident, Devon House is a quaint and peaceful place to spend an afternoon. Don’t forget to grab some ice cream while you’re there, famous on the island!

After dinner, our day is over, but the night is just beginning. There are plenty of nightlife options to keep you going at night, if you’re not too tired yet! Check out a local dance club, reggae band, or theater production. Kingston Jamaica doesn’t stop at night and neither should you. Ask your hotel for the best places to visit or pick up brochures from local tourist shops to guide your journey through Kingston at night. Stick to the beaten path in the dark, but let yourself go and enjoy your time.

It’s been a long and full day, but it’s time to get ready for tomorrow. If you’re in an active mood, we’ll head to the Blue Mountains for a hike. With different levels of difficulty, we are bound to find a trail to explore at the right pace. Do not forget your camera, the landscape is impressive from these heights.

If you prefer to soak up the easy, laid-back rhythms of the country, head to Kingston’s famous beaches. Here you can sit back and relax, enjoying the serenity of a tropical beach.

Whatever you choose for day two, it’s time to rest up a bit and prepare your adventurous spirit for another fabulous day of discovery in Kingston Jamaica.
