Most people don’t care about most Martingale systems. They are simple systems, and they ask you to double your bet every time you lose. This way, the theory goes, you will eventually win back your losses when you win. If, for example, you are playing the pass line with a $10 bet and the big red rears its ugly head, your next pass line bet would be $20. If he loses again, the next one would be for $40, then $80, then $160, then $320. If the table is capped at $500 (done to discourage martingales), you should stop and take a loss of $320.

The first is a Dont-Pass system. You bet one unit on Dont-Pass, and instead of doubling down when you lose, you raise your bet by one unit. Then when you win, start decreasing your bets by one unit until you are back to one unit. For example, if you lose the first two Dont-Pass bets, your third bet on the come out would be three units. If you win, the next bet would be for two units. Then a unit. If you win again, stay in one unit until you lose again.
A more interesting system is to bet on the field, again starting with one unit and increasing your bets by one unit when you lose. The interesting part here is that you will eventually win with a 2 or 12 that pays at least double.
The advantage of using these modified martingales is that you will eventually be ahead instead of breaking even. If, for example, your unit is $10 and you lose your first four bets, you will lose $100 ($10 + $20 + $30 + $40). Your fifth bet will be $50, and if you win, you are now only down $50. If you win the next four bets ($10 + $20 + $30 +40) you will be winning by $50! And if you’re betting on the field and hit a 2 or a 12, you’ll be even further ahead!
If you are betting on the field, try to wait until a seven is rolled and a point is established before you start betting. Then place bets only on the next four pitches, or if the point is made. Then wait another seven and get out, and start betting where you left off.
