Top Ten List: The Most Addictive Classic Games
This is a tribute to the ten most addictive games ever! Some of these games are video games, though most are online games via java and flash based engines. Very few classic games stand through the test of time and prove their true addition. In 2002, when flash based games became popular, there were only about 10 games to play, and now in the year 2008, about 20 more addictive classic games have been added to the vault! Most of these games are ones you’re already familiar with, but hey, who knows, you might be introduced to one you haven’t heard of or given a fair chance! My number one choice for this list is a game I’ve been playing since the 80’s, never get tired of it and never get bored. It can be played both on a console game unit and in different variations online and through flash processes too!
Tetris – This is one of those games that are easy to play and yet you need to be somewhat skilled. I have been playing this game and been addicted for as long as I can remember. The different online variations include; Tetris, Tetris 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Still my favorite of all time is the classic edition. I think there is also another game called Tetrix that looks a lot like Tetris but doesn’t have the original “pieces” for the game.
Asteroids: Honestly, I could never get into this game, but for some reason some people love it, in fact, I’ve seen more gaming competitions with this game than any other classic game out there! Variations include; Asteroid duel and asteroid revenge. The game is an old school game that I used to play in arcades when I was little! Dropped in 1979 by Atari Inc. It was one of the most popular and influential games of the golden age of arcade gaming.
Street Fight and Mortal Combat – These two games have evolved in recent years, but could also be used in Arcadia in the late 1980s. Mortal Kombat was the first entry in Midway’s famous and highly controversial Mortal Kombat fighting game series. Games, released in arcades in 1992. Street Fighter is a 1991 melee fighting game produced by Capcom originally released as a coin-operated arcade game. .
Super Mario – This game is everywhere, arcade, console, flash, you can even buy it in software and install it on your desktop! Super Mario is a platform game originated by Nintendo in late 1985 and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a sequel to the 1983 game Mario Bros. In Super Mario Bros., the formal character Mario must help Princess Peach (Princess Toadstool in the American version) of the Mushroom Kingdom of the evil Bowser, king of the Koopas. This is as classic and as addictive as it gets. I could play this for hours and I know plenty of other people who would say the same!
Pinball – Who doesn’t remember playing these pinball games in the arcade?! Well now you can also play these types of games through flash based capabilities. And most of them are very funny and have very good graphics. It’s certainly not the same as playing the real thing, but if you must have a substitute, this is as good as any!
Legend Of Zelda – This is obviously not a flash based game, and I’ve never seen a perfect rendering online to play, but it is one of the most classic console games ever! Zelda is a high fantasy action-adventure video game series produced by game graphic designer Shigeru Miyamoto and developed and released by Nintendo. The gameplay consists of a variety of action-adventure, puzzle-solving, role-playing, and casual platforming, stealth, and racing elements. The series centers on Link, the main playable character and protagonist. Link is frequently assigned the job of rescuing Princess Zelda.
Bomberman – This is an arcade-style maze-based video game developed by Hudson Soft. It was first released in 1983. The game was later ported to the Famicom and published in Japan on December 20, 1985, and came to the US Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. This version would later determine the design more of Bomberman, a robotic anime. as a character with a pink antenna. In 2004, this version of Bomberman was re-released for the Game Boy Advance, part of the Classic NES series.
Cons: I’ve seen flash-based apps using this game, and it’s about as much fun as I can remember playing it on my Nintendo system. The player controls a commando fighting waves of enemies including humans, machines, mutants, and aliens to reach their ultimate goal.
Carrier Air Wing is a 1990 side-scrolling shooter published for the CPS arcade hardware by Capcom. It is the inspiring sequel to UN Squadron, published during the previous year. As with the original, players selected any of three different fighter jets and battled their way through ten enemy-filled stages.
