Damage to asphalt roads is progressive and with constant use, they are susceptible to breaks such as fissures, cracks and potholes. Nature also plays an important role in its degradation in strong sun or heavy rains. Oils and grease can also corrode the surface of asphalt roads. To maintain asphalt driveways, it is essential to repair and renew them at least every two years. To give it a fresh look, the repair has a two-part process: cleaning and sealing. It should be noted that before starting work on the driveway, make sure the soil temperature is at least 45 degrees Fahrenheit or higher and no rain is expected for 3 days as it should not rain on the repaired surface during at least 2 hours. after the job is done. To seal, be careful to buy the right product. An asphalt driveway sealer will do an excellent job. Be sure not to pick up cement or asphalt roofing compounds, as they can damage your driveway rather than seal it.

Cleaning

This is the most important part of the repair job. Start by pulling out grass that has no longer grown from cracks and crevices and even edges. Then, with a stiff bristle brush, clean up any oil, grease, or gas spills. Use only detergents available especially for asphalt driveways. Now with a broom, sweep and clean the surface of the driveway. For large cracks or depressions in the surface, fill them with patching compounds to make the surface even and smooth. Take a garden hose with a spray nozzle and rinse the entire surface with a vigorous mist of water. This will help remove and remove dirt and small debris. You can also use a pressure washer if available, as it helps to rinse the surface more effectively. Allow the cleaned surface to dry completely before placing it in the next step. Inspect the surface for dirt residue and remove it, as even a little dirt can leave the final seal messy.

Sealing

Before starting to seal the driveway, pre-mix the sealer by turning it over with the lid still in the container and after opening the lid continue stirring frequently to keep it well mixed. Start at a corner of the driveway and try to seal it in small patches of maybe 10-20 square feet rather than long, narrow stripes. Pour the asphalt driveway sealer on the surface and apply the sealer with a long-handled application brush or squeegee in thin, overlapping layers. Repeat this process for the entire driveway until the entire surface is evenly covered. The minimum time required to dry the driveway is 24 hours and during this time, do not allow anyone or any vehicle to be on the surface.
